curious objects—daydreamed, designed, and built
Joe is an experienced and innovative carpenter and craftsman with an eye for both the familiar and the absurd, and has created a number of sophisticated display cabinets to showcase artists whose work calls for specific modes of observation. In particular, his projects for the artist Mars Tokyo invoke the ramshackle joys of the historical dime museum and the carnival midway, with a sense of fun and a joy in revelation as the artwork is exposed through viewer participation. In recent years, he has also been making his own artwork and innovative electronic musical instruments, which are documented here.
